The Honey House, Moshav Kadesh Barnea
Edward, Apiarist
Edward made Aliya from the Ukraine in 1993. He was a teacher of crafts in the schools there, but spent his summers working on farms in the area. He was among the founders of Kadesh Barnea as he was searching for his entrée to Israeli agriculture. In 2002 he was in a nearby village and saw a natural beehive in a tree. He cut it down and took it to his home, built an impromptu hive and grew his collection of 120 hives from the desert bees he discovered that day.
Edward keeps his bees based on traditional Ukranian methods that use no harmful chemicals or mitacides. He places oil and tomato juice in trays under his hives to ward off any pests. He uses absolutely no sprays and believes in product purity. For him it’s nothing special or out of the ordinary — it’s just how it was done in Ukraine.

Edward’s Honey
Edward produces a Eucalyptus Honey from experimental desert eucalyptus plants near his Moshav. He also produces a Desert Flower Honey. They are both pure and delicious honey varieties that were created from the nectar of desert plants that the bees collected from the regional vegetation. Both the bees and the honey are from the desert.
Edward uses no harmful chemicals or mitacides. He places oil and tomato juice in trays under his hives to ward off any pests and uses absolutely no sprays. He believes in product purity. For Edward it’s not any special method of beekeeping— it’s just how it was done in Ukraine.
